It's Freshers’ Fair!

15th Sept 2022

After introductions and inductions, ID badges and timetables, getting lost and meeting new friends for life there comes only one thing in College life - and that's Freshers’ Fair!

Abingdon Freshers’ kicks off the fun on Tuesday 20 September with Witney Freshers’ following soon after on Thursday 22 September. The Freshers’ Fairs are only open to current students so if you're thinking of joining us next year read on to find out what we have in store for you!

Head of Student Engagement, Nikkie Almond, explains: "Freshers’ is a traditional aspect of entering lifelong education and an event that students associate with finding out more about what support will be there on their journey in education. Anyone new to the College is welcome to pop along - you will love the atmosphere! It's a great way to build those trusting relationships".

As well as giant Jenga, ginormous bubbles, table cricket, beat the buzzer and inflatable human hungry hippos (including, for the more competitive among us, a staff -v- student event....!) there's an ice cream van, photobooth (say cheese!), stalls run by students and staff and, of course, our wonderfully talented Performing Arts students will be providing the entertainment.

But it's not all fun and games. The Freshers’ Fairs are also an opportunity for students to access the support, partnerships and opportunities the College has to offer.

Student Voice Coordinator, Cheryl Jones, says: "We have visitors from HSBC, OXME (Oxfordshire County Council's service for young people), The Terence Higgins Trust, Carers Oxfordshire, Speakers for Schools, Yellow Submarine, Aquarius and MIND, along with our fabulous staff from Careers, Student Voice First, Wellbeing, Enrichment, our College Nurse, our Maths and English departments, Student Engagement, Study Coaches, FEAST (Further Education Autism Specialist Team), Higher Education and the Library & Learning Centre on hand to talk to students."

And that's not all - we will also be spreading the word about our cross-College trip to New York!

So if the return to school has already got you thinking about GCSE results next summer and how you are going to shake things up with a new start in a new environment this time next year why not pop along to one of our open day events? You will find that College is very different to sixth form and a fantastic bridge offering lots of different kinds of support between the world of school and the worlds of work or higher education. We have courses for everyone in every situation - it could be you joining in the fun this time next year!
