This exciting practical programme assists students with an interest in Art & Design with the opportunity to develop skills and explore the materials, methods and processes that support art and design activities, and to begin to develop some related technical skills. This initial experience of Art and Design activity is intended to provide students with an early test of their commitment and interest in the subject. It also provides an opportunity for them to explore and develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required for progression within Art and Design education.

Weekly tutorials and visits to exhibitions will support your learning. Students will exhibit their own work at the end of year public exhibition. The Level 2 Diploma in Art and Design is made up of 9 units which are detailed below. Units include introduction to materials, techniques and processes, contextual research in aArt and Design, solving 2D creative problems and developing/producing a personal project. The following areas will be studied during the year and include: observation drawing, two dimensional art and design including printmaking, using Photoshop on the Apple Macs, photography (digital and darkroom based) and contextual studies.

Students will also have the opportunity to re-take English and maths via Functional Skills or GCSE.

Unit 4. Introduction to communication skills in art and design
Unit 5. Solving 2D creative problems

Unit 7. Solving time-based creative problems
Unit 8. Developing and producing a personal project in art and design
Unit 9. Developing and producing a personal project in art and design
In recent years our students have achieved excellent results on this course, and progressed onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design, Media, Photography or Backstage Production.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 and above usually including maths and English.
There is a course consumables fee of £85.00 payable at enrolment which covers course resources, paper, equipment , an art kit and print credits for the year. There is also a £40.00 fee for induction / day trips payable via WisePay at the start of term. The total course fee is £125.00. In addition to the main course fees there is an optional residential trip costing approx. £380 for course trips (cost given for guidance only.)
