This practical course provides a very good entry into still life painting.
Still life painting is a wonderful means by which to explore and develop the fundamentals of drawing and painting. Students will be encouraged to look at things with a fresh eye, to relish colour and to build confidence by developing and putting into practice good technique.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2 ½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
This intensive course is structured to suit learners’ pace and prior abilities.
Main topics covered: • Proportion and relative proportion. • Composition and relationships of objects. • Colour theory. • Painting techniques including laying a wash, wet on wet and dry brush in gouache painting. • Creating a three-dimensional image of a still-life in gouache by using different tonal patterns and knowledge about the main rules of perspective. • Techniques of modern artists related to still-life project. • Still-life painting in gouache or acrylic with a modern abstract layout. Do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running. Materials Required For the first session please bring: B, 2B and 3B drawing pencils, erasers. Learners are expected to provide their own paint, which might cost each student £20. Tutor will advise at the first session on paints etc. Please note there is no session on 13th February 2023
