Discover instance glass fusing with the microwave kiln in a domestic microwave. Using a microwave kiln is fast and relatively inexpensive way to discover if glass fusing is a hobby you might enjoy doing at home. Discover the COE, (Coefficient of Expansion) of glass and how glass works together.

You will be introduced to the skills and techniques required to produce glass pieces using the glass fusion method. By the end of the workshop you will have made varies small items which could include Jewellery pieces, pendants. Finished pieces can be incorporated into Stained-glass panels at later time. Results can be unpredictable; 2 pieces are never the same.

All glass fusing materials and equipment, such as safety tiles, safety gloves, cooling racks, fans, kiln paper and other specialist equipment required is supplied by the tutor.

Tea/Coffee are available to make, with a small charge. Please bring your lunch.
In order to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there is a watercooler on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.
Free parking.

You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.

You may like to develop your new skills on an 11-week evening stained glass mixed ability courses to try your hand at glass fusing and/or a 2-day copper foil and lead making workshop to try intricate copper foil work. Ask your Tutor for more course details or visit our website.
There are no formal entry requirements. This workshop is suitable for learners with all levels of ability. Complete beginners to Glass welcome.

Courses can fill fast, so please enrol early to avoid disappointment. Decisions on whether a course is to run are made two weeks prior to the start date - an email will be sent to you should there be changes to your course or if it is cancelled. Please check your inbox leading up to your course, including the junk folders. For anyone without an email account, our Admissions team will phone you instead.

For the first week of the course you will need to bring a valid form of identification; this includes passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2019 prior to starting the course.
It is anticipated you will be required to purchase approximately £25 of materials from the Tutor in order to complete this 1-day course. This fee has been estimated as an average cost incurred for materials by previous learners. The Tutor will supply all the materials you need to complete your project. As each project is unique to you. The materials you use will vary in quantity, colours, type and size. The Tutor will provide you with receipts for any materials purchased

Materials supplied by the Tutor include:
Glass (to make 2 x floater glass and 2 x 90 COE glass)
Hanging attachments

Courses offered by the college are fully or partly funded by the Government and the published fee takes account of this funding.

Before starting a course, the College is required to check you meet conditions relating to that funding, e.g. age, residency status within the UK/EEA, prior qualification level and employment status. In some circumstances (such as with online enrolments), these checks can only be completed after you have enrolled and paid.

If you are unable to pay in full for this course at the time of enrolment, and the course tuition fee is £100 or more, an instalment plan is available. If this is your preference, please do not enrol online but rather call the Admissions Team on 01235 216400 to enrol.

Once enrolled, Admissions will take the first instalment payment from you and pass on your details to the Finance team who will email you to set-up your payment plan. Please return a fully completed instalment plan to Finance as failure to do so could result in being withdrawn from your course.
