This course is designed to help you to develop your leadership and teamwork skills in the fitness, outdoor and adventurous skills required to work within the uniformed public services. It will provide you with opportunities and advice to help you be ready for employment in a uniformed, public service role or progress to higher education.

Topics covered include:

• team leadership
• outdoor and adventurous activities
• career and personal development
• fitness standards for public services
• research methods into outdoor and leisure industries
• map and compass skills

Year 1. Sport: Outdoor education/ Leadership/Fitness for the PS

Anatomy & Physiology

Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

Professional Development in the Sports Industry
Plans to include: career development planning and personal skill audit for the Sports industry and the Uniformed Public Services.

Sports Leadership
Plans to include: leadership styles for Public Services

Practical Sports Performance
Plans to include a selection from: indoor climbing activities, orienteering, mountain biking

Application of Fitness Testing
Plans to include: working towards Public Services fitness standards for work experience with the Marines or other Uniformed Public Service

Sports Event Organisation
Plans to include: an expedition using map and compass skills
The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Outdoor and Fitness for Public Services provides a natural route into higher education for courses such as Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in Sport and Public Services related disciplines.

Potential employment or progression routes include:

• Foundation Degree in Sport (Partnered with University of Gloucestershire) and Public Services
• University
• Personal Training
• Strength and Conditioning
• Sports Coaching
• Teaching
• Apprenticeship or Employment in Uniformed Public Services
Joining the programme is subject to a satisfactory interview, positive reference and having achieved one of the following:
- BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit Level and a minimum of grade C English Language or equivalent
- At least five GCSEs at Grades A* to C, including English Language or equivalent
- Applicants aged 18+ are required to have equivalent qualifications or experience and the necessary skills to complete the course.
In adddition to the main course fees given below there is an additional cost of £630 for course trips and £53 for kit/clothing (costs are given for guidance only).

Trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study but these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course. Details of cost will be provided during the enrolment process if not already above.
