The Sport Coaching, Fitness and Sports Development Course will give you the fundamental skills needed to progress and gain a career within the realm of sport. The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Coaching, Fitness and Development is a full-time vocational qualification that is equivalent to 3 A-Levels.

On this course you will learn about a wide range of topics of the sporting industry from the human anatomy, to fitness training and testing, to how sport is changing around us in sports development. You will be completing the course in both theory and practical lessons where you will be completing assignments that are reflective of both environments.

Fundamental aspects of the course include working with members of the group and developing a wider aspect of the sports industry and how to conduct yourself as a professional. Coaching and fitness are key elements of the course and this is continually reinforced throughout the course.

Each unit consists of around 5 assignment (depending on unit size) and the grading system is from Pass to Merit to Distinction.

On the course you will be tasked with developing your coaching abilities by planning and delivering lessons, as well as working with individuals to complete a 6 week training programme and a training diary to reflect your progress. Elements of the course will focus on sports development and how sport is changing around us with barriers to sport and initiatives to develop and promote sports.

This course not only prepares you for the sporting industry, but gives you first hand experiences of a range of sports and this is through trips and visits such as Bootcamp at the start of the year and finishing with an 8 day trip to the South of France to canoe the Ardeche River.

Other events and activities include a day trip to The Principality Stadium, competing in the Oxfordshire College Games against other colleges in a range of sporting events and working with disabled students and aiding in swimming and sports lessons at KingFisher School (Abingdon) and The Batt School (Witney).

There are also 11 specialist units including; practical sports (individual), outdoor activities, sports nutrition, leadership in sport, instructing PE, psychology, analysis of sports performance, organising events, sports as a business, outdoor land-based activities and gain valuable work experience.

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport Coaching, Fitness and Development provides a natural route into higher education for courses such as Foundation Degrees and Honours Degrees in sport related disciplines.

A majority of students that finish the sports course tend to progress to university to study a range of course including:

• Sports, Coaching and Physical Education
• Sports and Event Management
• Sports and Exercise Science
• Strength and Conditioning

5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above including English, Maths. and Science and satisfactory DBS check.

Trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study but these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course. Details of cost will be provided during the enrolment process if not already above.
