Using a wide range of tenses, with a formal and an informal language, you will start to analyse and discuss the world around you, i.e., art, music, books, science, landscapes, historical places, and cultural differences, with a glimpse on life in a few Spanish speaking countries.

Please note that this course is planned to be delivered online using Microsoft Teams. Access details will be sent through upon course confirmation.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.

The main topics are designed for those of you who have already studied the language for at least five years, or who have spent some time in the country and wish to learn more and practise their skills in a relaxed environment. The group will be able to discuss and choose which topics are of interest to them. You will practise all four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) with an emphasis on speaking and listening in class.

The topics include:
• Exchange explanations, knowledge and opinions on Art exhibitions, concerts, cultural events – magazine articles-video extracts.
• Study and share facts and views on writers, artists, musicians, their life and their careers.
• Describe and discuss social changes in society.
• Contribute to films and books reviews.
• Watch a few Spanish film extracts to study their script, purpose, and language style.
• Discover current developments in science.
• Read about future projects in medicine, in architecture and other areas and present them.
• Watch interviews in Spanish in these areas and report on them, debate on them.
• Visit a few Spanish speaking countries through short presentations.
• Write summaries and emails, as well as short letters in Spanish in the context of a social life, a holiday and trade relationships.

Spanish - Becoming Fluent
There are no formal entry requirements however this is a course for those who have already studied the language at school for four to five years, or followed a course for 250 hours, or else have spent some time in the country on holiday or business trips. This is a course for those who will already be able to talk fairly confidently in the present, past, future, and conditional tenses.

Courses can fill fast, so please enrol early to avoid disappointment. Decisions on whether a course is to run are made two weeks prior to the start date - an email will be sent to you should there be changes to your course or if it is cancelled. Please check your inbox leading up to your course, including the junk folders. For anyone without an email account, our Admissions team will phone you instead.

For the first week of the course you will need to bring a valid form of identification; this includes passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Please note - you should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2021 prior to starting the course.
A textbook is used in this course and it is optional to buy it although we recommend students to purchase it as it is a good reference when working in the class and at home

Courses offered by the college are fully or partly funded by the Government and the published fee takes account of this funding.

Before starting a course, the College is required to check you meet conditions relating to that funding, e.g. age, residency status within the UK/EEA, prior qualification level and employment status. In some circumstances (such as with online enrolments), these checks can only be completed after you have enrolled and paid.

If you are unable to pay in full for this course at the time of enrolment, and the course tuition fee is £300 or more, an instalment plan is available. If this is your preference, please do not enrol online but rather call the Admissions Team on 01235 216400 to enrol.

Once enrolled, Admissions will take the first instalment payment from you and pass on your details to the Finance team who will email you to set-up your payment plan. Please return a fully completed instalment plan to Finance as failure to do so could result in being withdrawn from your course.

As this is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification. However, you will be asked to complete activities that demonstrate how you are progressing on your course.
This course is designed with the idea of helping students develop their ability to understand, speak, read and write in Spanish. The course is taught by a qualified Spanish speaking teacher, using the most up-to-date teaching methods and a wide range of activities and material that adapts to different styles of learning. Course is very active and based on communication. There are not formal examinations, but progress will be assessed throughout the course through activities and assessments to do at home and speaking activities done in class.
