You will be introduced to the secrets of this exquisite art form, working with an artist who specialises in silk painting. Create your own unique artwork.
Learn the basics of silk painting, design a textile sample based on natural forms. The Specialist Consumable charge covers most of the materials needed for the day. However, you will need a frame - a charity shop picture frame is fine - choose one in a soft wood if possible, about the same size as your piece of silk. You will be provided with a metre square of silk to work with and you might wish to cut this into smaller pieces (50 x 50?) for experimentation. Please bring also, one or two basic watercolour brushes, a white palette or plate, paper towels, apron, jam jar.
What you can expect on the course: • To explore the creative process of silk painting. • The use of available learning resources: smartboard, reproductions, handouts etc. • To learn about batik and its history. • To apply visual language: line, pattern, shape, form, tonal value, colour and texture in relation to composition of printmaking project. • The exploration and development of your personal style.
Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.
