An introductory course into upcycling your garments and how to restyle into something new. You will gain confidence and skills in a relaxed and friendly learning environment.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
During the course you will up cycle a couple of garments of your choice and restyle them using various techniques. Either to wear or something for the home.
We will cover: • How to measure and cut out accurately and safely.• How to amend hemlines, waistlines, and sleeves. • How to add panels, collars, pockets, and cuffs. • How to utilise the materials for something for the home.• Cover basic hand and machine sewing techniques for construction and decorative work.
Materials Required:You may wish to bring your sewing machine to class (these are also provided). Initially please bring no more than two garments with you. Plus: Pieces of fabric and trimmings that co-ordinate with your garments / Matching sewing thread, spun polyester plus some cotton tacking thread / 25cms of medium weight interfacing (for collars and cuffs) / Any spare buttons, binding or piping etc that you may have.
To keep the cost down for this project check to see what pieces of fabric and trimming you have at home.
Basic sewing equipment: Fabric scissors, paper scissors, embroidery scissors, colour-headed pins, hand sewing needles, tape measure, tailors chalk, fabric marking pen, 30cm/12” ruler, small safety pin and a thimble.
Please do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.
