A short course over three weeks that will introduce you to the art of quilting and patchwork. Learn the basic skills that can be built on for a variety of projects. You will gain confidence and skills in a relaxed and friendly learning environment. Please bring your sewing machine, attachments and manual.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
During the course you will learn about fabrics, safe cutting out, pattern placement and basic sewing, quilting and patchwork skills to produce a series of panels suitable for Tote bags, cushions, a small quilt, or a wall hanging.
You will also learn:1. How measure accurately.2. How to choose patterns and buy suitable fabrics.3. How to cut out safely.4. How to follow pattern instructions to make panels to be used on above items.5. Cover basic construction techniques.6. Use and maintenance of the sewing machine .
Please do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.
Please bring with you: A4 Ring binder & 12 plastic sleeves. Tracing and marking paper. A4 lined & plain paper, pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, and calculator. 2 x 25cms strips of different coloured medium weight cotton 2 x 25cms strips of different coloured patterned medium weight cotton that co-ordinates with the above. 1 metre of plain medium weight cotton that also co-ordinates with the above NB: you can also use Fat Quarters that co-ordinate Matching and contrast sewing thread
Basic sewing equipment: Fabric scissors, paper scissors’, embroidery scissors, rotary cutter and cutting board (if you have these). Colour-headed pins, hand sewing needles, tape measure, tailors chalk, marking pen and tacking thread. 30cm/12” ruler and any patchwork rulers and templates that you may already have.
Please bring lunch with you.Tea/Coffee are available to make, with a small charge. To reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there is a watercooler on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.Free parking.
