This course covers all aspects of dressmaking and garment construction using commercial paper pattern from the easy range. To introduce pattern reading, basic sewing skills and fitting techniques that can be developed enabling you to make clothes successfully. Your first project will be a simple pinafore dress which can be made reversible in a woven fabric. Alternatively, a boy’s simple shirt followed by other exciting projects. You will gain confidence and skills in a relaxed and friendly learning environment.
You will need to bring your sewing machine along, with the manual.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
During the course you will learn about fabrics, cutting out, pattern placement and reading. Use established sewing techniques to produce initially a pinafore dress or shirt followed by other exciting childrenswear projects.
Take body measurements accurately. How to choose paper patterns and buy suitable fabric.How to adjust patterns and fit a toile.How to follow pattern instructions, cut out & make a garment.Cover basic construction methods such as seams, zips & hems etc. Cover simple pattern adaptations.Use and maintenance of the sewing machine.
Do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.
Please bring your sewing machine along with the manual.
A4 Ring binder & 12 plastic sleeves, A4 lined & plain paper, pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, and calculator.
1 metre of medium weight calico or cheap plain fabric for the toile.
Basic sewing equipment: Fabric scissors, paper scissors’, embroidery scissors, colour-headed pins, hand sewing needles, tape measure, tailors chalk, marking pen and tacking thread.
Please note there will be no teaching sessions on: 24/02/2022.
Tea/Coffee are available to make, with a small charge. To reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there is a watercooler on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.Free parking.
