Do you want to develop your accounting and finance skills while gaining industry-grade knowledge alongside a highly appraised and devoted team led by award-winning tutors? (AAT Large Training Provider of the Year 2020 and AAT Tutor of the Year 2019)The AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is designed for anyone wishing to study accountancy and finance alongside a range of complementary business and personal skills to gain knowledge, practical experience and certification.

The purpose of the Level 2 Certificate in Accounting is to offer the foundation of accounting knowledge needed to progress to employment or further study in accountancy and finance, alongside business and personal skills that are transferable to any sector and additional business knowledge relevant to accountancy. The qualification offers a broader focus across several subject areas which enhances employability. Our AAT courses run in several different formats to meet the needs of our learners. This option is a daytime course running on-site at our Abingdon campus; however, other formats are available on our website. During this time, you will be taught using a range of engaging teaching and learning techniques. For this course teaching will start at 09:15-14:45 on a Monday, in addition, students will have one-to-one tutorials with their tutor approximately 3 times per course.
Students can expect to spend a further 4-6 hours of independent study per week outside of college in order to complete the requirements of the programme.

All of the units within the qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification:

These are the typical units you will study over the duration of the course:

• Introduction to Bookkeeping
• Principles of Bookkeeping Controls
• Principles of Costing
• The Business Environment.

This qualification offers a natural route of academic progression into the AAT Level 3 Diploma in accounting which is available at Abingdon and Witney College upon completion of the Level 2. The accountancy and business skills developed by studying this qualification will enable a student to seek employment with confidence and/or to progress to the next level of learning.

A student completing this qualification will develop skills in double-entry bookkeeping and will understand how to use journals, control accounts and a trial balance. Students will also gain an understanding of accounting software packages, how to process financial information in accordance with company procedures and schedules, and how to provide information to colleagues, suppliers and/or customers as required.

Skills developed through this qualification could lead to employment as:
• an Accounts Administrator
• an Accounts Assistant
• an Accounts Payable Clerk
• a Purchase/Sales Ledger Clerk
• a Trainee Accounting Technician
• a Trainee Finance Assistant.
Students will need a willingness to study accounting and finance in relation to workplace activities. Previous knowledge of accounting would be an advantage, but it is not essential.

AAT does not set any prerequisites for the study of the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting. However, for the best chance of success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good standard of English and maths.

Home/EU Tuition fee TBA. Please see college website for up-to-date information on fees www.abigndon-witney.ac.uk
