This course is for young adults who have severe learning difficulties. It is designed to enable students to make independent choices and to communicate effectively. This is achieved by developing a greater awareness of immediate aspects of their lives and their environments as well as developing their ability to make choices and to communicate that choice to other people. Other elements of the course are designed to improve their awareness of the world around them and encourage greater social and academic confidence in a relevant peer group.
The curriculum offer is personalised and may include speech and language therapy, physiotherapy and dance movement therapy. The course will also cover communication skills, independent living skills and creative arts. During the course students are encouraged to develop self awareness and independence skills using the local community as well as taking part in our Social Enterpise, the Propeller Project.
Students are well supported, however they will work towards reducing this level of support when appropriate.
Assessments are carried out during the student's final year at school. A place will be offered depending on the outcome of the assessments. A link programme is offered during the summer term prior to the student leaving school.
It is anticipated that students will have a current Education Health and Care Plan. College are likely to be consulted by the Local Authority about whether a place can be offered but you will also need to apply for a place to the college.
Further assessments take place during the student's first term at college in order to confirm Pathway placement.
