Drawing in the Museum! A wonderful way to get to know the exhibits and create your own artworks.
Museum drawing is a practical course that will ensure you can complete it with more sophisticated artistic skills and a deeper understanding and appreciation of the Ashmolean museum’s wide-ranging collection. The focus will be on the basics of how to accurately record proportion and shape, mark-making, through the exploration of different drawing materials and tonal techniques that will give your drawings form. We will work from objects selected by the tutor from the Ashmolean collection, following several distinct group exercises which we will bring together in our final studies. There will be opportunities to draw from artworks first-hand in the museum as well as developing your own creative responses to objects, and resources.
Please note there will beno teaching session on 31/05/2023
Teaching sessions will take place in the Ashmolean Museum. The idea is that you sketch and develop your drawings using different tools or media in any way that you choose. Each week the tutor will take you through a specific planned task, demonstrating and supporting you, one to one. You will need to bring your own basic materials to use in the museum - bulldog clip or masking tape, erasers, and pencils only. Sharpeners must be enclosed or in a plastic bag. There is a cafe for refreshments or bring your own to drink in the designated area downstairs.
Materials Required:Learners are expected to provide their own colour pencils, which may cost each student approximately £15. Tutor will advise at the first session on pencils etc. Do not buy any materials until your course is confirmed as running.
Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
