This programme has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills to an advanced level through a variety of techniques in the following units: media, fashion, photographic, special effects, camouflage make-up, Mehndi skin decoration, creation and application of prosthetics and facial postiche. In addition, there will be opportunities to study Creative Hairdressing Skills, Bridal Hair Styling and Airbrush Make-up.

This exciting course one year course at the Abingdon campus is a practically based course and you will receive ongoing assessment on your practical skills. There will be theory which underpins the practical knowledge. In addition to your study programme, you will be required to undertake work experience within the Make-Up industry and keep a portfolio of photographic evidence.

We offer many different industry related enrichment sessions so you can gain lots of additional knowledge and skills whilst studying with us, these are vital to stay up to date in the make-up industry.

These are the units you will study over the duration of the course:

Apply make-up: This unit is about providing make-up for a variety of occasions, including day, evening and special occasions.

Instruction on make-up application: In this unit you will learn how to provide make-up instruction and give advice to clients from a variety of age groups and for a range of different purposes.

Camouflage make-up: This unit is about providing skin camouflage applications to cover a wide range of often complex conditions, designed to restore the skin colouration of the surrounding skin tone.

Media make-up: This unit is about special effects and media make-up. You will learn how to create casualty effects and character looks, using the application of small prosthetics.

Design and apply face and body art: This unit provides the knowledge and practical skills achieved to research and design both manual and airbrush techniques.

Fashion and photographic make-up: In this unit you will learn about designing and applying fashion and photographic make-up and includes incorporating current fashion trends, historical/period and special occasion make-up.

Mehndi skin decoration: In this unit you will learn the application of henna as a temporary form of skin decoration, commonly known as henna tattooing.

Health and safety: Through this unit you will develop your skills in a supervisory role focusing on health and safety within your work area.

Client care and communication: In this unit you will develop your ability to adapt the provision of client care and your communication skills, to the needs of different clients, as well as learn how to manage client expectations.

Promote products and services: Through this unit you will develop a sound knowledge of the products and services offered in your salon.
Students can progress into employment or decide to further their studies by progressing on to Higher Education.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above usually including Maths and English.
In addition to the main course fees given below there is an additional cost for uniform, kits etc details of which are given at interview (Costs are given for guidance only.)

Trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study but these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course. Details of cost will be provided during the enrolment process if not already above.
