Motor Vehicle apprentices could work for a specific dealership and focus on a particular manufacturer or work for an independent garage that deals with many different makes of vehicles. Typically, apprentices learn how to carry out routine services on vehicles before undertaking more complex services, or maintenance and repair work.This apprenticeship focuses on providing the skills and experience required to operate successfully as a service technician or mechanic, including the technical, health and safety and customer service elements of these roles. Apprentices will learn how to carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs, as well as identifying, recording, reporting and repairing faults. Training will include diagnostic testing activities on a range of different light vehicles such as cars and vans.

• Organising and delivering effective customer service • Health, safety and good housekeeping in the automotive environment • Materials, Fabrication, Tools and Measuring Devices used in the Automotive Environment • Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Transmission and Driveline Faults • Diagnosing and Rectifying Vehicle Auxiliary Electrical Faults • Diagnosis and Rectification of Light Vehicle Chassis Faults • Diagnosing and Rectifying Light Vehicle Chassis System Faults • Inspecting Light Vehicles Using Prescribed MethodsPlus a choice of NVQ units to meet the needs of the apprentice and the employer.
Successful completion of this apprenticeship could lead to work-based study at a higher level or full-time permanent employment.
No formal entry requirements. Applicants are likely to have 4 GCSEs at grade A* - C, or a level 2 apprenticeship, and will need to be able to demonstrate the capability to achieve all elements of the apprenticeship during their programme, including working in a suitable job role.

This apprenticeship has an £6000 funding band.Smaller companies will need to make a small contribution, large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy.
