Equipped to industry-standard, our Music Technology Suite at the Witney campus is the ideal place to take your audio and production skills to the next level. The TV and radio studio is state-of-the-art and we have high spec recording and editing kit available for you to use.

RSL’s Level 4 Creative Practitioners offers a unique and innovative professional development framework for those who wish to access realistic employment opportunities in the creative industries. This course is focussed on the recognition of development and achievement though practical skills.

You will undertake a journey of development in conjunction with expert mentors, from self and market analysis to ‘brand’ development and presentation to the industry, whatever your aspiration you can develop a strategy to achieve your goal. Level 4 is equivalent to the first year of a degree and offers a ‘Continuing Professional Development’ framework, allowing you to analyse your ‘offer’ in addition to the market you wish to enter; working on your skills whilst marketing and presenting yourselves to the industry.

We will support you to progress beyond your own expectations and have the confidence and skills that will stand you out from the crowd. You’ll increase your confidence, leadership, presentation and networking skills, learn to mentor others and prepare for your progression.

The course will run one day a week between 9:30–16:30 with additional flexible hours of approx. 3.5 hours per week, where you will access studios and technical support to develop your practical work.

Your practical experience and personal development will be underpinned by regular one to one tutorials. At Level 4 you are required to reflect with a critical approach and be able to communicate effectively in written form. Guest speakers and lecturers will offer talks and masterclasses about your next steps. The teaching and technician team are highly-skilled professionals who encourage our students to develop both their technical and creative knowledge.

This course is validated by Rock School Limited (RSL).

There is core unit is complimented by 3 specialist compulsory units to make up the 64 credits of the Level 4 programme. The units are:

401: Deconstruction,
403: Brand Development,
406: Presenting the Brand,
407: Evaluating Brand Development.

This course is designed to acknowledge your strengths and areas of development to enable you to represent your personal ‘brand’ as a freelance performer/music technologist/media creative who wants to break into the industry, or go on to study at a higher level.

There are no formal exams on this course. Coursework is assessed on an ongoing basis and assessed through practical work, events and reflective practice. Assessment methods have been developed to reflect the practical and creative requirements of the industry.
The course will develop many skills that you will be able to use in the world of work and can be a route towards a career in Sound Recording, Sound Engineering, Music Technology, Event Management, Composing, Recording, Film, TV and the computer games industry.

This qualification is designed to offer direct progression into self-employment as an artist, entrepreneur or freelance technician/musician in the creative industries. This qualification can also be used as an entry qualification for further undergraduate training in creative industry subjects.

The course focuses on the recognition of development and achievement through practical skills, development of your artistic/musical brand and is designed to prepare you with the skills required to produce creative content and work as a freelancer in the industry, and can also be an effective stepping stone to Degree level courses.

Past audio and visual production students have gone on to study at BIMM, National Film and Television School, Southampton Solent, Arts University Bournemouth and many others.
You may have successfully completed a creative course at Level 3 or you may be an artist, entrepreneur or technician with a sufficient levels of experience/skills and prior body of work which shows that you are ready for the in-depth developmental process which this pathway prescribes.

You will need to have a minimum of 2 A Levels (or equivalent) at grade C or above OR a Level 3 vocational qualification and GCSE English Language at grade C/4.

Vocational experience will be taken into consideration for mature candidates that demonstrate the the ability to study at level 4 in combination with a sufficient level of experience/skills.

You will also be required to provide a written personal statement, a positive reference and to attend an interview where you will need to demonstrate your interest and aptitude in audio and/or visual production. Please consider that if you are planning to progress to university after this Level 4 Diploma course you may need to have the necessary qualifications to meet their entry requirements.

English Language Requirements (For students whose first language is not English): IELTS 6.0 (with 6.0 in reading and writing, 5.5 in listening and speaking).

Free tuition if you are under 19 at the start of the course. 19+ tuition fee is £4,425 eligible for and Advanced Learner Loan.

A £50 trip fee and £20 kit fee is charged at enrolment. Additional costs you can expect to incur include any addtional kit you require, such as headphones.

There may be additional trips, for example to London, which you may be required to fund. These will be discussed in advance and made optional. There will be the possibility of attending overseas study trip which will cost approximately £350.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.
