This course is run in partnership with Oxfordshire Football Development (OFD) and will give you the fundamental skills needed to progress and gain a career within the realm of sport, particularly within the football industry. The course offers a mix of skills and knowledge that will prepare you for working within the Football and Sporting industries and/or Active Leisure industry. Subjects studied are related to nutrition, anatomy and physiology, health and sports psychology.

This course will consist of 12 units with an emphasis on practical activities.

The course units you will study include;

Fitness for Sport & Exercise
Practical Sports Performance
Anatomy & Physiology for Sports Performance
The Sports Performer in Action
Training for Personal Fitness
Leading Sports Activities
Promotion and Sponsorship in Sport
Lifestyle and Wellbeing
Injury and the Sports Performer
The Sport and Active Leisure Industry
Designing Exercise Programmes

You will also take part in football training with OFD 4 days per week at Abingdon United Football ground in Northcourt Road, Abingdon, with matches on Wednesdays. Full attendance at both the college lessons and the football training sessions are mandatory for this course.

• Improving Health and Fitness for Entry to the Uniformed Public Services
• Sport and Recreation in the Public Services
• Land Navigation by Map and Compass
• Crime and its Effects on Society
Joining this study programme is subject to a satisfactory interview and the following achievements: At least 4 x GCSE grade 3/D or above, usually including English or maths.
There will be a fee for football kit and information on this will be advised by OFD.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport
The Level 2 First Extended Certificate in Sport will be assessed by exams, written and practical assessments.
