This course is for those students who have completed at least four years of Italian (equivalent to higher Intermediate level) with a sound knowledge of the grammar and would like to continue practicing the language and improve their vocabulary by learning more of the Italian culture and traditions and compare it to their own.There will be emphasis on speaking and reading mainly.There will be some homework and suggestions on independent study.Students are required to do revision and complete homework to consolidate what has been learnt in class.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
Topics covered include:Italy and its geographyThe Italians and holidaysThe Italians and superstitionsThe festivitiesThe Italian family, yesterday and todayThe Italians and sportStereotypesBrief history of ItalyEmigrationThe new ItaliansRegionalismGrammatically, you will review and consolidate the construction and use of the past tenses, the subjunctive, the future tense, the conditional and the reported speech.Video clips, movies, news will also be used to improve listening skills.
Please note there will be no teaching sessions on: 26/10/2021, 21/12/2021, 28/12/2021, 22/02/2022, 12/04/2022, 19/04/2022 and 31/06/2022.
There are vending machines available where hot/cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. To reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there are watercoolers on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.
There is no parking on the campus during the day. Please use Marriotts Walk or Woodford Way Car Parks which are a few minutes’ walk away.
Please report to Reception on arrival. A photo-id will be issued, for you to wear when you attend classes.
