If you have no or minimal knowledge of the Italian language then this is the place for you to start your journey into the Italian language. “Rusty” beginners who have learned very little Italian but feel that revision and practice would be useful, may want to consider signing up as well. However, if this applies to you, you may need to consider that the course might be a bit too slow or easy for your needs, should you know much more than complete beginners.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
At the end of the course the you should be able to perform basic tasks asking and answering simple questions concerning the following topics: introducing yourself to others, stating your name, profession, age, where you live and nationality/numbers in order to cope with understanding prices. Ordering a drink and a snack in a café/bar. You will also be starting to familiarize yourself with some grammatical concepts such as formal and informal address (tu and Lei forms), gender with indefinite and definite articles and adjectives. You will learn commonly used verbs 'Essere ' and 'Avere' in the present tense. However, grammatical concepts will be kept to a minimum at this level and the main emphasis should be on speaking and listening to communicate.
You will also do small bits of reading and writing, reading and writing basic sentences on topics, but this will mainly be left for home. The emphasis is on learning and having fun.
Please note there will be no teaching session on 28/10/2021.
There are vending machines available where hot/cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. To reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there are watercoolers on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.
Should the Campus car park be full, please use Marriotts Walk or Woodford Way Car Parks which are a few minutes’ walk away.
Please report to Reception on arrival. A photo-id will be issued, for you to wear when you attend classes.
Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.
