A course that allows learners to come to grasp with some of the modern ideas in psychology and how they can be used to influence your personal and work life.

Modern psychology comes from a basis of classical psychology updated to reflect how the modern geopolitical world works in terms of knowledge gained over centuries.

We will study how the idea of how we learn, why we learn and what is the point of learning? This will interlock with classical theories and modern concepts that are influenced by interactive media. We then move through the idea of IQ versus multiple intelligences and how this then impacts on game theory and life scripting which form the basis of Transactional Analysis. We will look at how and why groups form and how the individual works within a group. This is followed by looking into the concept of cognitive dissonance and how the areas of truth and perceived truth can blur. We will touch on the concept of emotions and emotional intelligence and we will look at how all of these ideas can highlight a pathway to change.

Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
