This course is aimed at those wanting to start to trace the history of their family and discover their roots. The course explores the key resources containing information that will enable you to start building your own family tree. Primarily we will be looking at records relating to the British Isles however the research techniques learnt can be applied to records of other countries as well. Apply the use of family history related websites, records, research techniques and methods for organising research information.
This course explores how you can use items that you may have hidden away at home. It will consider how to interview relatives in order to build up a picture of the lives of your ancestors. You will discover various records and documents that contain information about your ancestors including Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates, Census Records & Parish Records. You have the opportunity to learn how to use information available on the internet and discover the wealth of resources in libraries and record offices. You will find out how to draw a family tree and ways of organising & presenting your information. There will be an opportunity to explore books & magazines relating to Family History.

There are vending machines available where hot/cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. In order to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there are watercoolers on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.
There is no parking on site during the day. Please use Marriotts Walk or Woodford Way Car Parks, which are a few minutes’ walk away.
