The Gateway Centres act as a flexible educational centre within the College in order to engage and prepare you for progression onto a suitable course, employment or training.

Based at Abingdon and Witney campuses the Gateway Centres offer supportive and progressive student-led programmes for 16-18 year olds who are not currently in education, employment or training.

This may be due to missing school because of illness, phobias, caring responsibilities, etc. or not having found your direction since leaving school. If you are interested, and wish to apply for a place, or just to find out more information, then please contact the college on 01993 208008 (Witney) or 01235 216269 (Abingdon) or email

Working in partnership with local secondary schools and Oxfordshire County Council, Abingdon & Witney College offers an exciting range of Alternative Provision for 14 to 16-year-olds across Oxfordshire. Pupils have access to the very best vocational education and training, learning in an adult environment, characterised by first class practical facilities and inspirational teaching. Costs range from £1200 for day-release vocational options to £4536 for a 4-days a week, 18-hour package over an academic year payable by schools. Courses available on request.

In addition to the main course fees given below there is also a £15 trip fee payable for this course.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course costs. Call 01235 216 298 for more information.

The rules on fee reduction are complicated and we would encourage you to talk to our Admissions staff on 01235 555 585 to discuss your options. You can find more information on our Fees and Bursaries page - search "Fees and Bursaries" at the top of the page.

A group of students are made up of very mixed abilities and our sessions are tailored to the needs of the individuals. Teaching is done via workshop sessions, where the class is supported by the Learning Support Advisor (LSA) and Mentor.

The Mentor will also conduct 1:1 support meetings during this time. A Co-ordinator works across both sites, accessing each equally and offering tailored sessions.

We know that not all of our workshop sessions will appeal to or are needed by every student and therefore we offer a flexible timetable, with the option for students to opt out of workshops if needed.
