This course is aimed at those wanting to start to trace the history of their family and discover their roots. The course explores the key resources containing information that will enable you to start building your own family tree. Primarily we will be looking at records relating to the British Isles however the research techniques learnt can be applied to records of other countries as well. Apply the use of family history related websites, records, research techniques and methods for organising research information.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
This course explores how you can use items that you may have hidden away at home. It will consider how to interview relatives in order to build up a picture of the lives of your ancestors. You will discover various records and documents that contain information about your ancestors including Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates, Census Records & Parish Records. You have the opportunity to learn how to use information available on the internet. You will find out how to draw a family tree and ways of organising & presenting your information.
Tea/Coffee are available to make, with a small charge. To reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there is a watercooler on site making it easy to refill your water bottle. Free parking.
