You shall cover basic drawing skills such as construction drawing and moulding form with light and shade. We will look at the traditional ways of applying watercolour: wet into wet, layered washes, glazes etc. We will also make experimental paintings. You will observe still life objects and express space and atmosphere in landscapes. There will be demonstrations and ample time to experiment. Learners with some experience will be encouraged to take their work further and challenge themselves.Please note there will be no class on 15/02/22
What the course will cover:
• Simple still life to establish learner’s level of experience • Constructing a drawing: relating one form to another. • Rule of thirds: learners to experiment with designing a series of compositions using this method • Rule of thirds part two: Finished painting • Negative space: learners to observe negative spaces in a still life then utilise strong negative shapes in designing a composition. • Colour in composition: Learners to consider the effective juxta positioning of colours to lead the eye and balance the painting. • Experimental painting: wax resist masking scratching etc • Glazing and overlaying colours • Figure composition part one: Simple perspective of townscape • Figure composition part two: placing figures within paintings to give movement and scale.
What you need to bring to the first session: A4 watercolour paper pad Small white plate to mix colour on. Jam jar for water Kitchen paper HB pencil and sharpener Eraser
