You shall cover basic drawing skills such as construction drawing and moulding form with light and shade. We will look at the traditional ways of applying watercolour: wet into wet, layered washes, glazes etc. We will also make experimental paintings. You will observe still life objects and express space and atmosphere in landscapes. There will be demonstrations and ample time to experiment. Learners with some experience will be encouraged to take their work further and challenge themselves.

• Introduction to construction drawing: measuring techniques: Construct basic forms using plumb lines, diagonals and triangulation techniques.
• Further construction drawing, with more experienced learners asked to tackle more challenging subject matter.
• Introduction to tonality: Charcoal drawing of simple sculptural objects
• Further tonality: experimental mark making: Fruit and vegetables, bold expressive mark making. Experienced learners asked to relate several forms with each other and consider composition.
• Introduction to watercolour: wet into wet, layered washes, dry brushing. Beginners to work from tutor demonstration of landscape, experienced learners given the option of creating your own image.
• Repeated mark painting of still life of citrus fruit, looking for local, tonal and ambient colour. Beginners to paint one or two pieces, experienced learners to paint a range of fruits and make some consideration towards composition.
• Repeated mark painting of trees, looking for patterns and ratios of leaf and sky.
• Still life with warm analogous colours
• Analogous colours part two; Cool colours in a landscape: a choice of reference, from very simple, to more challenging
• Snow scene using masking fluid and limited palette.

Please note there will be no teaching sessions on 04/05/2020 and 25/05/2020

You could move onto Watercolour improvers, or take on another medium such as oils or acrylics.
