The short course is designed for dog lovers and owners. The course will be held at the Common Leys Farm campus where we have access to both classrooms and the practical facilities. These include a commercial dog grooming room and a dog agility arena. The course aims to give you a better understanding of dog behaviour; from innate behaviours that have come from evolution and selective breeding to those behaviours that our four legged friends have picked up from conscious training or as a side effect of living with humans. The course will be a mixture of practical and theory sessions. The practical sessions will involve dog training demonstrations with the opportunity for you to have a go.If you own a dog, there may be the opportunity to bring them along to a session to put some of the techniques you have learnt into practice.
The course will start by looking at dog behaviour, body language and how to understand the signals your dog is giving you. Then you will study how dogs learn and how to transfer this to successful training programmes. The specialist lecturers will be on hand to answer any dog behavioural and handling questions you may have.
