Have you always wanted to write and never found the time – or summoned up the courage? Do you write but never quite see things through to a conclusion? Would you just like to dip your toes into the water and give it a try? Not sure how to begin? Or how to shape an idea?
This is the course for anyone who wants to write or try writing. Your tutor has written 6 crime fiction novels, as well as short stories, non-fiction and a couple of scripts for short films. He knows the ups and downs of writing and getting published and will lead you gently through the process of freeing your inner writer and exploring some of the many elements of creative writing.
In order to avoid disappointment, it is advisable to enrol at least 2½ weeks prior to the course starting. We will confirm course information two weeks prior to the start date.
The course will cover many of the following, but allowance will be made for the specific needs and aims of the students who attend:
• Short stories and novels• How to get started and find inspiration• How to shape a story – story arc, sub-plots and building tension• How to create and develop strong and interesting characters • How to write convincing dialogue• First and third person points of view• Writing for stage and screen• Writing for stage and screen• How to review and edit drafts• How to present your material for possible publication• Blogging and writing for magazines/websites• How to find a market for your work• Publishers, agents and self-publishing
Please note there will be no teaching sessions on 21/10/2021, 28/10/2021 and 04/11/2021.
Tea/Coffee are available to make, with a small charge. To reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there is a watercooler on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.Free parking.
