Do you like being outdoors? Do you want to know how to help protect our countryside? This one-year full-time course introduces students to a variety of practical tasks that would be encountered in the conservation and horticultural industries. You will be working with a range of tools and equipment. This course will give you an introduction to different conservation methods, whilst developing employability skills. You will be based at the Common Leys Farm Campus. This is the college’s land-based practical site in the West Oxfordshire countryside with purpose-built practical teaching areas.

Students will be working towards a study programme that will include their main vocational qualification, functional skills in English and Maths or GCSE, tutorials, enrichment and work experience. These are essential skills for employment. Students will usually attend College 3- 4 days a week from 9.30am - 4.30pm.

Course units include:

• Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
• Preparing to work in the land-based industries
• Identify plants and trees
• Assist with the transport and maintenance of tools and equipment
• Contribute to the establishment of plants
• Assist with the maintenance of structures and surfaces in the countryside.
