Discover how to make realistic wired sugar flowers from icing to decorate a celebration cake. This one day workshop is a beginner’s course aimed at teaching you how to use flower paste icing to create simple sweet peas, leaves and freesias. By the end of the day you will have a small posy of flowers which you can keep for a future special occasion.
You will create a small posy of sugar flowers including sweet peas, leaves and freesias. You will learn how to roll out flower paste icing, how to use cutters to make petals, how to make pulled flowers, how to create realistic leaves using cutters and a leaf veiner.
You will need to bring the following equipment and materials (please do not purchase any materials until your course has been confirmed is running):
• cocktail sticks• dusting colours – a good make is Edible Tints by Sugarflair – colours should include foliage green, spring green, lemon yellow• 200g of white flower paste – A Piece of Cake in Thame make a very good paste or you can use Squire’s Kitchen Sugar Florist Paste• A set of rose petal cutters (FMM are a good make)• a gerberas cutter and a smaller daisy cutter• a packet of 24 gauge floristry wire• a roll of dark green floristry tape• a pair of thin nosed pliers or wire cutters• dusting colours – should include foliage green, spring green, lemon yellow (Edible Tints by Sugarflair are a good make)• Sugarflair paste colour either Christmas Red or Egg Yellow; • a container with cornflower• a small plastic non-stick board• small plastic rolling pin• a small craft knife• a palette knife or flat bladed table knife • several small unused paintbrushes• some edible glue • an apron• a box to carry your flowers home in• 4 m of 3mm wide ribbon in a colour of your choice• small plastic artists palette - The Works sell these
Tea/Coffee are available to make, with a small charge. Please bring your lunch.In order to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there is a watercooler on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.Free parking.
