Spend a relaxing day learning some essential cake decorating skills at this one day workshop. You will ice and decorate a beautiful Easter cake, learn how to using crimpers and pipe with royal icing. You will also make edible sugar flowers including primroses, violets, daffodils from fondant icing. If time allows there will be an additional project to decorated 4 cupcakes with Easter Animal cake toppers. You will be expected to bring your own equipment and materials but some spares may be available to borrow from the tutor if learners have difficulty finding certain items
The course will include:- • How to cover a cake with sugar paste icing. You will cover a sponge cake or a polystyrene cake dummy if preferred.• Basic piping with royal icing• Adding colour to icing• Using flower paste icing to make lettering• Covering a cake board with icing.• Using a bead maker• How to use flower paste icing to create a cake topper• Model edible spring sugar flowers from fondant icing
Please bring the following ingredients:• 300g of buttercream if covering a real cake (100g butter, 200g icing sugar with tsp vanilla essence)• 1 kg of white ready to roll icing – Tesco’s own is fine or Renshaw’s regal ice• Icing sugar• Food colouring sugar flair paste colours -grape violet, egg yellow and Christmas green' alternatively buy small packets of ready coloured ready to roll icing• 100g of white flower or modelling paste
And equipment:
• 7 inch round sponge cake in two halves (making a 3inch deep cake what put together) or, alternatively a 7 inch round polystyrene cake dummy• Cake board 10” round drum• Pastry brush (preferably plastic)• A large and a small rolling pin (plastic if possible)• Small sieve or a sugar shaker with icing sugar• A palette knife• A small table knife with a flat blade or a small palette knife• A cake smoother• A piping bag and nozzles or piping syringe .• A small unused paintbrush• Plastic pots with lids and a box to carry your cake home in• Cocktail sticks• 2 metres of 15mm wide satin ribbon in colours either pale yellow, pale green or lilac• Clean apron and tea towel• a set of alphabet cutters such as FMM italic cutters• Small craft knife • 4 muffin sized cupcakes
