The children and young people’s workforce makes up approximately 10% of the labour market in England and includes people working in all sectors of the economy. A large number are public sector employees, including in schools, colleges, local authorities and the NHS. Many work in the private sector – particularly in early years, but there are private providers in all areas of services to children and young people. A growing part of the workforce is employed, or volunteers, in the third sector that plays an increasing role in the delivery of all services, particularly those for the most vulnerable children, young people and families.Childcare apprentices will learn knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings At higher levels, apprentices will develop skills to practise as an Early Years Educator.

Successful completion of this apprenticeship could lead to work-based study at a higher level or full-time permanent employment.
No formal entry requirements. Applicants are likely to have 4 GCSEs at grade A* - D, and will need to be able to demonstrate the capability to achieve all elements of the apprenticeship during their programme, including working in a suitable job role.

This apprenticeship has an £2000 funding band.

Small companies will need to make a small contribution, large companies could pay through the apprenticeship levy.
