This is a course for absolute beginners who wish to have a basic understanding of British Sign Language. It may be that you are the parent of a child who has no hearing or that through work you have developed a desire to communicate with persons of no hearing.
This course will cover colours, numbers, weather and very basic conversation. Myths about deaf people will be expunged and you will gain an understanding of the challenges faced by someone who lacks the ability to hear. By the end of this course you will learn over 30 signs and be confident to communicate with deaf people.
Please note there will be no teaching sessions on 27/10/2020.
There are vending machines available where hot/cold drinks and snacks can be purchased. In order to reduce the use of single-use plastic water bottles/cups, there are watercoolers on site making it easy to refill your water bottle.
Should the Campus car park be full, please use Marriotts Walk or Woodford Way Car Parks which are a few minutes’ walk away.
Please report to Reception (Windrush Building) on arrival.
Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.
