This is an exciting and fun programme, designed to help you achieve competence in the job role of a beauty massage therapist. The course is timetabled over 3-4 days, which also includes a commercial evening session. You will also be required to attend a work placement one day a week.

This is a vocational qualification and includes all the required elements to work effectively as a Beauty Therapist including, mandatory units covering the following: body massage, improve skin using facial electrical therapy, Indian head massage, massage with pre-blended oils, stone therapy and monitoring procedures in the salon and contributing to the planning of a promotional event.

Throughout this qualification you will develop your knowledge and understanding of relevant anatomy and physiology, health and safety, and client care.

These are the typical units you will study over the duration of the course:

Contribute to the Planning and Implementation of Promotional Activities: This unit, also known as your ‘Business Studies’ is about working with others to plan, implement and evaluate promotional activities. The ability to competently present information and interact with the public whilst demonstrating skills is a particularly important aspect of this unit. This unit includes a Health and Safety unit, the organisation of a Dermalogica Skin Bar event and a Health Farm Day event.

Provide Indian Head Massage: This unit is about the skills involved in providing Indian head massage treatment. The ability to adapt massage techniques to suit individual client needs and the environment in which the massage takes place are crucial requirements.

Provide Facial Electrical Treatments: This unit is about improving face and skin condition using direct high frequency, galvanic, micro-current, lymphatic drainage and micro-dermabrasion equipment.

On completion of this course, you may wish to study the Level 3 Diploma in Make-Up Artistry qualification or the Level 3 Certificate in Fashion and Photographic Make Up qualification. You may want to add to your skills by completing short courses in specialist areas, for example epilation techniques, Mendhi skin decoration, nail technology, piercings, UV tanning, face and body art, laser and light treatments.
5 GCSEs at grade C/4 and above usually including Maths and English.
