This course combines both theory and practical animal related work to cover the key areas of routine management and welfare for animals. Students will either study an extended certificate or the technical certificate in animal care depending upon their GCSE grades on entry

Assessment for the Extended Certificate is by internally assessed coursework, which includes both written and practical assessments. The Technical Certificate has externally set and marked examinations.

Course modules include 4 core modules:

• Animal health and welfare
• Animal accommodation
• Practical animal feeding
• Work-related experience.

plus optional units to be chosen by the tutor from the following:

• Basic principles of animal biology
• Animal behaviour and handling
• Presentation and service for retailing
• Introduction to animal breeds and grooming
• Conservation and improvement of British habitats.
On successful completion at Merit level, and showing the ability to work at Level 2 literacy, you may be suitable for progressing to a Level 3 course such as the Subsidiary Diploma in Animal Management or Advanced Technical Certificate/Diploma.
4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or above including Maths, English and Science and attendance at the assessment day.
In addition to the main course fees given below there is are additional costs of in the region of £75 for protective clothing and trip fee costs of £65. Students may be eligible for a student bursary to help with these costs. (Costs are given for guidance only.)

Trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study but these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course. Details of cost will be provided during the enrolment process if not already above.
