You will be offered a broad grounding in the use of acrylics. You will cover glazing, layering, impasto painting, bold and expressive brush work. You will examine how to observe a simple still life, how to mould form through light and shade, how to use colour effectively and how to express space and distance in a landscape.
• Painting a cylinder: Expressing form through light and shade using a variety of techniques, this simple exercise will show me the level that learners are at. • Still life of learner’s choice: From a simple single object to a complex set up.• Palette craft: colour mixing/matching, followed by applying colours in a very simple way to a landscape, (more experienced learners might wish to progress landscape further. • Colour wheel.• Warm analogous colour still life, (from very simple statements to experienced learners looking at subtle changes in colour caused by reflected light)• Cool analogous colour landscape• Transparency: glass objects, (glazing technique)• Reflective surfaces, glazing continued)• Reflections in a pond (glazing and bold mark making• Palette knife painting. Expressive mark making
