The Association of Accounting Technicians qualification provides an opportunity for those seeking to enter accounting, and those working in accounting to gain knowledge, practical experience and certification.

This part time course runs in a number of different formats to meet the needs of our learners. One option is to attend for one day per week during term time, the second option is a blended online on campus programme and the third option is to attend one long evening a week during term time. During this time you will be taught within a range of teaching and learning environments which will include lectures, workshops and seminars. For this course teaching will start at 16:30-21:00 one day a week, in addition students will have one to one tutorials with thier tutor 15:30-16:30(or at an alternative agreed time) approximately 3 times per course.

Students can expect to spend a further 3-6 hours per week outside of their normal timetabled day in order to complete the requirements of the programme.

These are the typical units you will study over the duration of the course:

All of the units within the qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification:

• Bookkeeping Controls
• Elements of Costing
• Using Accounting Software
• Work Effectively in Finance
The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification is also the underpinning knowledge needed for the higher-level accountancy and financial skills developed in the AAT Advanced and Professional Accounting Qualifications::

• AAT Advanced Diploma in Accounting
• AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting.
• ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting
• Oxford Brookes University BSc in Applied Accounting
Willingness to study accounting and finance in relation to work place activities. Previous knowledge of accounting would be an advantage but it is not essential.

AAT does not set any prerequisites for the study of the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting. However, for the best chance of success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good standard of English and maths.

Extra Costs; Textbooks are required to support their study within each unit and the total cost is approximately £110.
AAT registration is required to be paid after enrolement to enable students to sit the examinations and access AAT resources. This includes £49 one-off initial registration administration fee and £101 subscription fee (payable yearly). This is paid directly to AAT.

The exam fees for a first sitting are included in the tuition fee. However, resits are charged at the relevant AAT exam entry fee plus a £10 Abingdon & Witney College admin fee.

Due to COVID-19 we are not currently planning any trips as part of your course. If we are able to organise trips during your course, the cost of these will be communicated to you at the time. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting Level 2.
All computer/online based assessments, 4 modular assessments and one final synoptic assessment.
A student completing this qualification will develop accountancy skills in double-entry bookkeeping and basic costing, as well as an understanding of purchase, sales and general ledgers. Students will learn to use accounting software and to develop the professional skills and behaviours needed to contribute effectively in the workplace. Working in accountancy requires good communication skills, IT skills and understanding of the business environment, all of which are included in the qualification.
