The internationally-recognised AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) qualifications enable those working in accounting to gain knowledge, practical experience and that all-important certification.

This part time course runs in two formats to meet the needs of our learners. One option is to attend for one day per week during term time, or a second option is to attend two evenings a week during term time for part of the year, which then reduces to one evening per week. During this time you will be taught within a range of teaching and learning environments which will include lectures, workshops and seminars.

Students can expect to spend a further 3-6 hours per week outside of their normal timetabled day in order to complete the requirements of the programme.

These are the typical units you will study over the duration of the course.

All of the units within the qualification are mandatory. Four units are assessed individually in end-of-unit assessments, but this qualification also includes a synoptic assessment, sat towards the end of the qualification, which draws on and assesses knowledge and understanding from across the qualification.

Modules of study include:

• Bookkeeping transactions
• Bookkeeping controls
• Elements of costing
• Computerised accounts
• Work effectively in finance
The accountancy and finance knowledge developed in this qualification is also the underpinning knowledge needed for the higher-level accountancy and financial skills developed in the AAT Advanced and Professional Accounting Qualifications::

• AAT Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Accounting
• AAT Professional Diploma in Accounting
• ACCA Advanced Diploma in Accounting
• Oxford Brookes University BSc in Applied Accounting.
A willingness to study accounting and finance in relation to workplace activities. Previous knowledge of accounting would be advantageous but is not essential. A Level 1 C&G Bookkeeping qualification is advantageous.

AAT does not set any prerequisites for the study of the AAT Foundation Certificate in Accounting. However, for the best chance of success, we recommend that students begin their studies with a good standard of English and maths.
