This is a one year full time course delivered at our Abingdon campus.

The course will be delivered over two days but will require additional outside study time of at least 10 hours/week. To gain a QAA recognised Access to Higher Education diploma you need to gain 60 credits of which 45 credits are graded. There are 15 credits available in Biology, 12 credits available in psychology and 12 credits in sociology. Six credits are available from the independent research project which can either be science-based or social science based. The remaining 15 ungraded credits are based around academic study skills.

You will study the following three subject areas Biology, Psychology and Sociology. You will also acquire the necessary academic and IT skills needed for effective study through workshops. You will be given tutorial guidance to support your university application.
Access to HE Diploma (Science combined with Social Sciences) is a course specifically designed to enable students with few qualifications to reach the necessary entry requirements for a degree or diploma in Higher Education.
You must be 19 or over have few formal qualifications but want to go on to study in Higher Education.

You will need to have a GCSE grade C/4 (or equivalent) in English and Maths. Relevant work experience is normally expected for your university application to be considered and therefore we expect you to have arranged this before starting the course.
Students aged 19-23 who do not already hold a Level 3 qualification may be entitled to remission of fees. Students aged 24+ and those who already hold a Level 3 qualification will need to pay fees or apply for an advanced learner loan. At present this loan does not need to be repaid if you progress onto a degree programme within one year of completing your Access to HE course but please contact our admissions team for further details.

As part of your course we may organise trips to assist you with your learning. Trips are optional, and you will not be penalised if you choose not to participate. Bursaries may also available to cover the cost of some trips.

There are bursaries available to help you with other course costs. Call 01235 216 212 for more information.

The rules on fee reduction are complicated and we would encourage you to talk to our Admissions staff on 01235 555 585 to discuss your options. You can find more information on our Fees and Bursaries page - search "Fees and Bursaries" at the top of the page.
