Subject area: A Carer’s Journey
Study level: Part Time
Course level: U
As a carer we can face difficult emotions managing the needs of our loved one. It can be an exhausting time with little time for you, the carer, but you matter too! This short course offers a chance to explore how to manage these difficult feelings and to consider the benefits of being more self-compassionate and kind to yourself.
We can often berate ourselves and tell ourselves we should have done more or done things differently. However, if someone else was saying similar things to us we are likely to show compassion toward them and encourage them to accept they did their best. When we cultivate self-compassion we learn to be less self-critical and we are more likely to accept that no one is perfect. With self-compassion, when we feel responsible for something not working out the way we wanted, we can respond with kindness and compassion rather than constantly judging ourselves negatively and being self-critical. This course will explore ways to cultivate self-compassion, manage your emotions and challenge negative thoughts that contribute to negative feelings.
Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted regulation and is required to work with all its students to make sure they understand Government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values. Information on these matters will be shared with you during your course.
You will also be asked to complete monitoring paperwork, which helps us to deliver course content to the highest quality.
