Creative students unveil amazing works at Avenue One
3rd-14th June, 10am-4pm (excluding Saturday & Sundays)
Avenue One Skills Centre, Witney, OX28 4XZ
EDITION is an exhibition featuring diverse, sophisticated and thoughtful work exploring challenging topics, created by skilful students on several courses at Abingdon & Witney College who demonstrate the ability to problem-solve, think critically and creatively.
Mariella Crispin (17) was previously a student at Wood Green School, and has just completed the University of the Arts London (UAL) Extended Diploma in Art & Design at the Witney campus.
Her project considered some of the key environmental issues of the day including climate change and the overuse of plastics. She said: “The show is giving me the ability to highlight these issues and allow me to meet one of my goals which is to become a freelance designer and manufacturer of a line of clothing reflecting these issues. As well as exhibiting a range of items including T-Shirts and key rings I’m also hoping to sell them! I’ve really enjoyed the course at College they treat you very much as an adult and this course has allowed me to focus on what I want to study – it’s developed my confidence and allowed me to be in control of my work.”
Hannah James, Head of Faculty for the College’s creative courses, said:
“1 in 11 jobs in the UK are in the Creative Industries and it is the fastest growing sector, yet we are currently seeing a decline in take up of creative subjects in schools due to pressure from government performance tables. So, we are delighted to celebrate the arts in education in the current political climate and share the breadth of opportunities that Art, Design, Craft and Photography can offer.
These talented students will shape our future and I am incredibly proud of their achievements.”
