On application to the College your level of English will be assessed. If this does not meet the required standard you will need to attend ESOL classes as part of your studies here.

ESOL (English for speakers of other Languages)

You can study ESOL full-time at Abingdon & Witney College. The course is offered at 2 levels to international students:

  • Level 1 – Upper Intermediate
  • Level 2 – Advanced

Your course will include speaking, listening, pronunciation, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary and IT skills.

You will work towards gaining an internationally-recognised Cambridge ESOL Skills for Life qualification at the above levels. You will also have the chance to gain a range of other Cambridge qualifications, including First Certificate in English, Certificate in Advanced English and Cambridge Proficiency.

Students at advanced level may also have the chance to study Academic English alongside their main course to prepare them for an IELTS examination. This is a standard requirement for entry to university in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

For visa requirements, you have to study either level 1 or 2 EFL.

Previous Education

In order to apply for any of the above courses, you will need to have studied to a certain level. This level will depend on the country you studied in. When you apply, we will require copies of your previous education certificates to assess your current education level. You will also need to bring the original versions of these certificates with you when you come to the UK.

For visa requirements, to study a course other that ESOL, you will also need to show that your level of English is at CEFR level B2. When you apply you will be asked to complete an English test which will allow us to assess your current level of English.
