Course Overview

Take time to relax and gently replenish your energy and enjoyment of life with this specialist yoga class for anyone who wants to follow a gentle but effective exercise regime. It is also suitable for people who have not exercised for some time, have a chronic condition or who are recovering from illness or injury.


Course Content

Using yoga postures to gently stretch, relax and refresh the body. Learn relaxation techniques that can be used in daily life to manage stress levels and improve wellbeing. Increase body awareness and work on balance using a combination of gentle yoga, stretches and breathing techniques to increase wellbeing. You will be given the opportunity to explore the links to other forms of exercise and therapies as well as simple relaxation techniques to improve rest and sleep. Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted visits and have a responsibility to ensure we meet/exceed their requirements. As a result of this you will find you will be expected to understand the government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values as well as complete quality monitoring paperwork as part of the course.

Entry Requirements

This course is for anyone who would like to be more aware of their body, fitter, mentally and physically stronger and who would like to be more relaxed. You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire before joining the course. There are no entry requirements for this course.

Enrolment numbers to our courses are reviewed regularly. To avoid disappointment it is advised to enrol early. Course viability decisions are made two weeks prior to the course start date. Any course changes are communicated via email so please ensure you check your email accounts running up to the course start date.

On the first week of the course you will be required to bring along one form of identification. This could be a passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Please Note: Students should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2018.


Learning Methods & Assessment

The teaching will be a combination of demonstration, practice and group work. As this course is unaccredited informal methods of assessment will be used such as self-assessment, question and answer, discussion with your tutor, observation.


What Qualification Will I Receive?

This is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification

Courses start throughout the academic year. We also run other yoga courses, at Grove and other centres, throughout the academic year.

Most courses offered by the college are fully or partly funded, the published fee takes account of that funding. Before you are accepted onto a course you will need to meet a number of conditions relating to your entitlement to funding e.g. your age, residency status within the UK/EEA and prior qualification level. In some circumstances (such as with online enrolments), these checks can only be completed after you have enrolled and paid.
