Course Overview

Through practice, to teach the less experienced drawer the basic proportions and rations for drawing a full face from different angles and to assist the more experienced learners to develop their skill and competence in drawing using live models.

Course Content

Either work closely with the tutor or be guided through stages of proportion and facial rations or work at own level with individual tuition from the tutor.

Learners are expected to provide all their own materials. Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted visits and have a responsibility to ensure we meet/exceed their requirements. As a result of this you will find you will be expected to understand the government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values as well as complete quality monitoring paperwork as part of the course.

Entry Requirements

It is open to people with some experience of portrait drawing who may wish to improve and develop their skills. It is also open to beginners who will need to have rudimentary drawing skills. There are no entry requirements for this course.

Enrolment numbers to our courses are reviewed regularly. To avoid disappointment it is advised to enrol early. Course viability decisions are made two weeks prior to the course start date. Any course changes are communicated via email so please ensure you check your email accounts running up to the course start date.

On the first week of the course you will be required to bring along one form of identification. This could be a passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Please Note: Students should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2018.

Learning Methods & Assessment

The main emphasis is practical and teaching methods will include demonstration, practice, pair and group work and 1 to 1 guidance from the tutor.

What Qualification Will I Receive?

This is a non-accredited course, there is no formal qualification

Where Next?

Through practice beginners will have developed the knowledge and skills needed to draw parts of the face to achieve a passable likeness of your subject. More experienced learners will have developed their skills and ability at portraiture and will be able to apply them to future portrait work.

Fee Information

Included in the course fee is a £25 charge to cover the cost of providing a model.

Most courses offered by the college are fully or partly funded, the published fee takes account of that funding. Before you are accepted onto a course you will need to meet a number of conditions relating to your entitlement to funding e.g. your age, residency status within the UK/EEA and prior qualification level. In some circumstances (such as with online enrolments), these checks can only be completed after you have enrolled and paid.
