A pottery course in which you will learn a variety of processes and be encouraged to produce a range of artwork to your own design
Hand building techniques such as thumb pots, coiling, slab building, using moulds and modelling. Use of the potter`s wheel.
The pottery room is well equipped with many decorative materials available such as coloured slips, glazes, underglaze colours, oxides and a good range of tools. You will develop a visual language in relation to art project line, pattern, shape and form, tonal value, colour, texture.
The fee for specialist consumerable materials and equipment covers all your needs for the course. Just bring an apron, notebook/phone/camera a preferred. Beginners and learners with some experience including those who have completed previous terms. There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Enrolment numbers to our courses are reviewed regularly. To avoid disappointment it is advised to enrol early. Course viability decisions are made two weeks prior to the course start date. Any course changes are communicated via email so please ensure you check your email accounts running up to the course start date.
On the first week of the course you will be required to bring along one form of identification. This could be a passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Assessment is informal. You will be encouraged to assess your own work and will be supported to make decisions as to process and to progress accordingly. Beginners will be able to use the basic techniques to make objects from their own design. Those with experience will be encouraged to improve the quality of their work and to try new techniques.
This a non accredited course so assessment is informal and will be a mix of Q and A, discussion with some simple record forms.

You will be able to use the knowledge and skills you have learnt to build on your experience in the next course or at a later date.
The Specialist Consumable fee covers the materials that you will use to make your pots, the clay, glazes for example. This is budgeted at £0.75 per hour.
Trips and visits may be offered as part of your programme of study but these will be optional and fees will be collected throughout the duration of the course. Details of cost will be provided during the enrolment process if not already above.
