Course Overview

This course is an introduction to machine embroidery.
You will be guided through drawing, writing and appliquéing fabric. Perfect first steps to free machine embroidery.


Course Content

During this course you will be introduced to using your machine needle as a drawing tool, and create a selection of samples suitable for decorating bags books or cards. Learn how to set up your machine for free machine embroidery, have fun making samples.
Please bring a basic sewing kit to the first session. Abingdon and Witney College is subject to Ofsted visits and have a responsibility to ensure we meet/exceed their requirements. As a result of this you will find you will be expected to understand the government initiatives around Safeguarding, Prevent and Fundamental British Values as well as complete quality monitoring paperwork as part of the course.

Entry Requirements

You need to be familiar with your sewing machine with some confidence in machine sewing. There are no entry requirements for this course.

Enrolment numbers to our courses are reviewed regularly. To avoid disappointment it is advised to enrol early. Course viability decisions are made two weeks prior to the course start date. Any course changes are communicated via email so please ensure you check your email accounts running up to the course start date.

On the first week of the course you will be required to bring along one form of identification. This could be a passport, driving licence, debit/credit card, Birth Certificate or National Insurance card.

Please Note: Students should be 19 years old or over at 31st August 2018.

Skills I Will Develop

By the end of this course you will have the skills needed to produce a piece of machine embroidered work


Learning Methods & Assessment

As this is not accredited informal methods of assessment will be used.
For example:
Observation/Demonstration
Self-assessment
Question & answer
Practical exercises and 1:1’s with the tutor
Learners make greater progress if they do some work during the week and have access to a sewing machine at home.

This course is not accredited so no qualifications are available
