Student Union
All about the Abingdon and Witney College Student Union
The Abingdon and Witney College Student Union is affiliated to the National Union of Students which means that for every NUS Extra card sold £4.60 is returned back to the Student union. NUS membership costs £10 and entitles you to discounts at a range of high-street retailers, cinemas, theatres, sports centres etc. This money then is then spent by the Union on student things! In the past the money has been spent on Plasma TV screens, student seating areas and sports team equipment.
Student Officers are elected every year in positions like Secretary, Entertainment officer, Treasurer, Equality and Diversity Officer and Mature Student Officer and meet once a week throughout the year. Being an elected member of the union you will also develop personal skills, learn how to chair meetings, manage finances, run events and raise money for good causes. If you are lucky you might even get attend the National Union of Students Conferences and Training Events.
Student Reps
Student Reps also make up the Student Union and each course or tutor group is encouraged to elect at least one course rep. Student Rep meetings are held once every half term and are asked to bring forward ideas, opinion and views of their fellow students on college life. All meetings are minuted and actions are taken to make student life in college as enjoyable, comfortable and positive as possible. By being an elected union member or a student rep you can help make positive and significant changes to college life and help to improve standards.
student govenor
Each year 2 students are elected to join the college Board of Governors. You will provide the vital link between the students and the Governing Body by listening to and then passing on student opinions about their courses and general life in college to the Governors.
student action forum
This is another key way in which the college listens to students. An Action Forum takes place on each campus every half term. Students are invited to come along as a tutor group or individual and raise concerns, give opinions and views on all aspects of college life, directly to the Principal.
